The problem of high blood pressure can be tackled by proper medical treatment and diet. Besides medication it is also important to keep physically active and follow a healthy lifestyle. There are certain exercises which help to lower high blood pressure. The American Heart Association has advised people suffering from high pressure to workout thrice a week. But it’s important to consult a doctor before engaging in rigorous workouts. You should approach a fitness trainer who will test your level of stamina and on basis of that he will suggest appropriate exercises for you. Make it a point to take a break in between workouts and never force yourself to go beyond your limits. Some of the exercises which be can followed to lower the level of blood pressure are discussed below. Aerobics Aerobics is such a physical activity which helps your body to suck in more oxygen. Aerobics involves walking, running and jogging. These type activities can be followed by all ages. Aerobics exercises make the body muscles move faster. This way the blood circulation in the body increases and the blood flows faster from the muscles to the heart. It also helps to flush out the toxins from the body which is essential for keeping healthy. Water aerobics is known be effective for lowering blood pressure. Walking- Keep your blood pressure by taking daily walks in your locality. In the beginning you go for slow walks covering short distances. But once you get used to it you can cover more distances and increase your walking speed. You can keep a track of the progress made by you by using a pedometer which will count your steps. You can also go for brisk walking if you find it comfortable. If you feel uneasy then walk in your normal pace. Develop the habit of using the staircase instead of the lift and take your dog for a walk in the park. Jogging and Running- You can go for a run or jog in your local park or a place which is pollution free. Otherwise you can workout on a treadmill at home. If you don’t have a treadmill then you can use a gym. Swimming and Cycling Swimming is very effective in lowering blood pressure. It helps to increase blood circulation and also keeps the muscles toned. Cycling provides a great workout for the whole body increasing the blood circulation. Yoga and Meditation Yoga uses breathing exercises which releases the stress from the body and consequently lowers blood pressure. Breathing exercises relaxes the brain which then can secrete certain hormones which keeps the body healthy. Your physical conditions will improve if you practice the breathing exercises regularly. In yoga there are certain postures which are very effective in normalizing the blood pressure. Yoga exercises like double leg raises, shoulder stretches and half spinal twist can be practiced at home. But the tougher exercises should be practiced with the help of an instructor; you should never try it yourself. Whichever exercise you decide to follow make it a point to first get an approval from the doctor before you engage yourself in it. It is also wise to keep a trainer who will monitor your movements.
