Xbox 360 update brings USB storage capability for game data
Posted on Tuesday, April 06 @ 16:46:05 BST by duncan

Games Console (XBOX, PS3, Wii etc) An Xbox 360 update going live today gives gamers the capability to store game saves, profiles and downloads on a USB stick.  What's more, any old USB stick will do. Though Microsoft will be selling their own branded eight and 16GB USB sticks for around £25 to £45. This is the biggest single USB device that the Xbox will take, but because you can use two simultaneously, it means total extra storage weighs in at 32GB. To enable this flash-drive support, users will be prompted by their machines to accept an update.

Once it's been downloaded a new era will have dawned, one that doesn't involve lugging hard-drives round to friend's houses to play stored games.

It's also another missile strike in the war between Microsoft and Sony.

This autumn the battle will intensify when their new motion-sensor controls hit the shelves.

Microsoft's Project Natal for the 360 uses the player's own body movements to play games, while Sony have unveiled the PlayStation Move - a wand-like device that will work with the PlayStation Eye camera.
