Sky and LG to promote benefits of 3D TV
Audio & Visual (TV, Hi-Fi, DVD, etc) Sky and LG have agreed a deal that will see the broadcaster endorsing the manufacturer's 3D televisions. The partnership comes ahead of the premiere of Sky's new 3D TV channel at the start of October 2010, which will screen live coverage of the Ryder Cup over its launch weekend.

ABC to launch UK video-on-demand service on BT Vision
Audio & Visual (TV, Hi-Fi, DVD, etc) US broadcaster ABC, which makes shows including Desperate Housewives and Cougar Town, is to launch its first video-on-demand service outside North America after striking a deal with BT's online TV service.

3D scan gives better view of heart
Audio & Visual (TV, Hi-Fi, DVD, etc) A leading cardiologist has unveiled a new technique that allows doctors to "slice" open 3D images of the heart which he claims could lead to fewer operations to diagnose defects.  The innovative method, known as multiplane review (MPR) 3D echocardiography, enables users to identify heart defects much more accurately than on traditional 2D or standard 3D scans.

SES ASTRA AND DANCE TV HD SIGN CAPACITY AGREEMENT FOR CONTRIBUTION ACROSS EUROPE
Audio & Visual (TV, Hi-Fi, DVD, etc) SES announced that it has signed an agreement with Netherlands-based Dance TV HD for the delivery of its programme to HD bouquets throughout Europe. Under the terms of the agreement, SES ASTRA will provide capacity on its 23.5 degrees East orbital position and deliver uplink services from its playout centre in Munich, Germany. The agreement with SES ASTRA will allow Dance TV HD to deliver its programme to various HD bouquets throughout Europe. It will thereby benefit from the enlarged footprint of SES ASTRA's newly launched satellite, ASTRA 3B, that offers coverage from Spain to the Black Sea.

Eyecare Trust warns of 3D pains

A new study reveals that up to 12 per cent of the UK's population could have difficulty making use of 3D TV and video game technologies due to poor binocular vision. The study, carried out by The Eyecare Trust and reported over on gaming industry site MCV, warns that the technology used in films like Avatar and on Nintendo's up-coming 3DS hand-held console could spell pain for a surprisingly large percentage of the population.
