You Can Now Shop At Argos Via Your Google Home Device

Argos has become the first ever UK retailer to offer a shopping service using Google Home and Google Assistant, likely in response to increased competition from online commerce sites like Amazon.

By saying “Okay Google”, users are able to wake up the voice search function to find products sold by Argos.

Google Home speakers enable users to speak voice commands to interact with services through Google’s intelligent personal assistant called Google Assistant. A large number of services, both in-house and third-party, are integrated, allowing users to listen to music, control playback of videos or photos, or receive news updates entirely by voice.

Argos chief executive John Rogers told the BBC that launching an app on Google Home was “step one” and that the retailer was taking the approach of “trying and testing”.

“I don’t expect to turn on the app and suddenly double our sales,” he said. But I expect people will use it and experiment with it – and if we can make it a seamless process, you can see why people would want to use it.”
