PostgreSQL INSERT … ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE Improper Authorization Vulnerability [CVE-2018-10925]

A vulnerability in PostgreSQL could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to a targeted system.

The vulnerability is due to improper authorization checks of statements involving INSERT … ON CONFLICT DO UPDATE by the affected software. An attacker with CREATE TABLE privileges could exploit this vulnerability on a targeted system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain unauthorized access, which could be used to read arbitrary server memory. An attacker who also has INSERT and UPDATE privileges could conduct further attacks.

PostgreSQL has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
