In October 2018, the company announced that they will release hundreds of robots from their workshops. These smart machines will deliver the packages to people’s front door. If you live in Milton Keynes and are expecting some packages, don’t be surprised to see a six-wheel robot at your doorstep!

The new service is not limited to your address! In fact, it is available through a mobile phone app. Residents of the neighbourhood can enter the delivery address of their choice! Customers pay a monthly subscription of £7.99 for an unlimited number of deliveries using the service!

But there are many people who are concerned! It’s a normal to wonder whether these delivery bots are safe. Will the packages be affected? Or will it be a hazard on the road? Well, much of these points were taken into consideration during the design. The robots are programmed to travel along pavements and cross streets. Just like a little pedestrian!

In addition, these innovative machines feature 10 cameras, ultrasound sensors, radar and even GPS. There’s little possibility that the robot ends up crashing on someone or something. It can see 360 degrees and has a situational awareness bubble. This allows it to detect and avoid any obstacle that may pop up!

But what if the road is a dead end? Or it needs to cross the road? No worries! The robots are equipped with a sophisticated computer vision. It has a built-in software that allows it to identify objects like cars, pedestrians, traffic lights and whether it is on the road or pavement!

The firm has now partnered with Co-Op Grocery Company. They are thinking of using the robots to deliver groceries as well. Lex Bayer, Starship’s Chief Executive Officer is positive about the direction the Robot Delivery Project is going. To quote – “We’re excited that thanks to our technology, local communities across Milton Keynes will never miss a home delivery again.”
