FreeImage JXR File Processing StreamCalcIFDSize Function Denial of Service Vulnerability [CVE-2019-12212]

• A vulnerability in the JPEG-XR (JXR) image processing functionality used by the FreeImage library could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on a targeted system.The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input by the StreamCalcIFDSizefunction, as defined in the JXRMeta.c source code file of the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted JXR file to the targeted system. A successful exploit could cause a stack exhaustion condition, resulting in a DoS condition on the targeted system.Proof-of-concept (PoC) code that demonstrates an exploit of this vulnerability is publicly available.
  
  FreeImage has confirmed the vulnerability; however, software updates are not available.
