Sophos XG – Registering with RED registry service failed [RESOLVED]

If you try to activate the Sophos RED service on a Sophos XG Firewall and get the following error, then read this post as it may help you fix the issue.

Error – Registering with RED registry service failed. Please make sure that this device can connect to the internet on port 3400.

  1. SSH/Telnet to the Sophos XG Firewall.

2. Connect to the “Advanced Shell”

3. Type the command telnet red.astaro.com 3400 if this comes back as “connected” then it should work.

You may also need to create a firewall rule to allow port 3400 outbound access, when tested from command shell red.astaro.com comes back as 46.51.176.142 so it would be best to create a rule to allow both port / IP and hostname.

There is also a limit on the organization name of 38 characters.

Check that your ISP doe snot block port 3400 outbound.
