Phishing scams ‘fundraising’ for Ukraine

Action Fraud has revealed that it has received 196 reports of scam emails purporting to raise money for those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

Fraudsters have used a variety of methods in order to get potential victims to part with their cash, which includes selling t-shirts and soliciting cryptocurrency donations.

Action Fraud advice on how to detect such scams includes

  • Checking a charity’s name and registration number at www.gov.uk/checkcharity to confirm its legitimacy
  • Typing the address of the charity website rather than clicking on a link when donating online

Both the NCSC and Action Fraud encourage everyone to forward suspicious emails to [email protected].
