Donald Trump has extended the deadline for TikTok sale in the US for a further 90 days
U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday extended the deadline for China-based ByteDance to sell the U.S. assets of the short-video app TikTok to September 17, despite existing legislation requiring a sale or shutdown in the absence of substantial progress.
He issued an executive order granting a 90-day extension, an action he had previously indicated was likely.
Donald Trump has expressed his desire to keep the app operational in the U.S., noting its role in helping him connect with younger voters during the 2024 presidential election. He has also voiced confidence that Chinese President Xi Jinping would support a deal that allows the app to continue functioning.
TikTok has said it is continuing to work with U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s office on the matter.
