Additional Frequencies For Broadband Fixed Wireless Access In The 5.8 GHz Band
Ofcom has today published a decision which enables access to additional frequencies for broadband fixed wireless access in the 5.8 GHz band.
Broadband fixed wireless access (BFWA) is widely used to deliver broadband internet to consumers and businesses, particularly in difficult to reach areas.
Today’s decision removes a 20 MHz frequency ‘notch’ which is used for road tolling systems. Ofcom has found that it is possible for BFWA to share these frequencies with road tolling systems, and that a dedicated frequency notch for road tolling uses is no longer necessary.
This decision will enable BFWA to use more channels in the 5.8 GHz band and provide the potential for an increase in the capacity and speed of BFWA services.
