LibRaw leaf_hdr_load_raw() Function NULL Pointer Dereference Vulnerability {CVE-2018-5806}

A vulnerability in the leaf_hdr_load_raw() function of LibRaw could allow a local attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on a targeted system.The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input processed by the leaf_hdr_load_raw() function, as defined in the internal/dcraw_common.cpp source code file of the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a malicious file to the targeted system. A successful exploit could trigger a NULL pointer dereference condition and cause the affected software to crash, resulting in a DoS condition.Proof-of-concept (PoC) code that demonstrates an exploit of this vulnerability is publicly available.LibRaw has confirmed the vulnerability and released software updates.
