Microsoft is setting up a new office in London focused on the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) research and development.

The head of AI at the tech giant, Mustafa Suleyman, announced that they will soon be seeking out “exceptional individuals” to fill roles within the office. However, specific details regarding the number of job openings have not been disclosed.

Microsoft, a significant investor in OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, established its own office in London in 2023.

In a blog post, Mr. Suleyman stated, “The UK possesses a vast reservoir of AI talent and expertise,” emphasizing the company’s commitment to making substantial and enduring investments in the region by recruiting top AI scientists and engineers for this new AI hub. Mr. Suleyman, who co-founded DeepMind, an AI research lab in the UK, further added that DeepMind was acquired by Google in 2014.

He announced that AI engineer Jordan Hoffmann, who previously held positions at DeepMind and Inflection, will spearhead operations at the new office.

“Microsoft AI London will be at the forefront of innovative efforts to push the boundaries of state-of-the-art language models and the infrastructure that sustains them,” Mr. Suleyman remarked.
