Cyberattack on Collins Aerospace disrupts flights at European airports
A cyberattack on Collins Aerospace, the company behind check-in and boarding systems for airlines worldwide, caused major disruptions at several European airports today — including London’s Heathrow, the busiest in Europe.
The incident led to widespread delays and cancellations after Collins’ software, which supports electronic check-in and baggage handling, was compromised.
RTX, the parent company of Collins Aerospace, confirmed it had identified a “cyber-related disruption” affecting systems at certain airports. The company stressed that the issue was limited to electronic check-in and baggage drop, and could be managed through manual procedures. Efforts to restore normal operations are underway.
Heathrow Airport, in a notice posted on X (formerly Twitter), advised travelers to check flight updates directly with their airline before heading to the airport. Passengers were urged not to arrive earlier than three hours before long-haul departures or two hours before domestic flights.
Extra staff have been deployed to assist at check-in areas, and the airport apologised for the inconvenience.
