How to turn off mobile data for specific apps on Samsung mobile phone (RESOLVED)

On Samsung Galaxy devices you can stop apps from using mobile data through several built-in methods, ranging from background restrictions to advanced automated routines.

1. Restrict Background Data (Best for saving data)

This prevents apps from using mobile data when you are not actively using them.

  1. Open Settings and tap Connections.
  2. Tap Data usage > Mobile data usage.
  3. Select the specific app you want to restrict.
  4. Toggle off Allow background data usage

2. Set “Wi-Fi Only” for Specific Apps

Newer Samsung models (including the S25 and S26 series) allow you to force apps to never use mobile data.

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Data usage.
  2. Tap Allowed networks for apps.
  3. Find your app and select Wi-Fi only

3. Use Data Saver (Global Restriction)

This is a “master switch” that stops most background apps from using data at once.

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Data usage.
  2. Tap Data saver and toggle Turn on now to On.
  3. To allow specific apps to bypass this (like WhatsApp or Email), tap Allowed to use data while Data saver is on and select them.

4. Automated Restriction via “Modes and Routines”

If you want to completely block an app’s internet access (both foreground and background) when it is open:

  1. Open Settings > Modes and Routines > Routines.
  2. Tap the + icon to create a new routine.
  3. Under If, select App opened and choose your app.
  4. Under Then, go to Connections and set Mobile data to Off.
  5. Save the routine. Now, whenever you open that app, mobile data will automatically turn off and will turn back on once you close it.
