Sony PS5 price goes up by £90 due to global pressures

Sony has announced a significant price increase for the PlayStation 5, raising it by £90 in the UK and $100 in the US, citing “ongoing pressures in the global economic environment” as the reason for the hike.

From 2nd April 2026 the changes will increase the recommended retail prices of the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal handheld across global markets.

In a statement Sony said the increases were “a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide”.

he changes will push the PS5’s recommended retail price in the UK to £569.99, marking a 19% rise.

The PS5 Digital Edition will increase to £519.99, up 21%, while the PS5 Pro will be priced at £789.99, a 13% increase.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation Portal handheld will see a £20 price bump, bringing it to £219.99.
