UK Semiconductor Industry Unites Under New UKSIA Umbrella

The UK semiconductor industry is set to gain a stronger collective voice following the launch of the UK Semiconductor Industry Association (UKSIA), a new organisation designed to bring together key semiconductor communities under a single umbrella.

The announcement was made during TechWorks’ Semiconductors to Systems Summit 2026 (S2S26) in London, which brought together more than 700 semiconductor industry executives, researchers, investors and technology leaders. The event highlighted growing momentum across the UK’s deep-tech sector and marked a major step towards closer collaboration across the semiconductor supply chain.

UKSIA will unite several groups that have developed from the former National Microelectronics Institute (NMI), which was established in 1996. The new organisation aims to provide a unified platform for semiconductor companies, helping the industry engage more effectively with government, secure investment and influence future technology policies.

TechWorks CEO Charles Sturman said the creation of UKSIA would help create a clearer route between industry and government, while supporting companies across the UK semiconductor ecosystem. The organisation will work alongside the UK Semiconductor Centre (UKSC), providing an industry-focused partner to support national semiconductor initiatives.

The move comes as the global semiconductor industry faces increasing demand driven by artificial intelligence, advanced computing, automotive technology, defence systems and connected devices. The UK has been looking to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities, recognising the importance of chip technology for future economic growth and supply chain resilience.

While UKSIA will focus on supporting semiconductor companies, existing specialist communities such as the Automotive Electronic Systems Innovation Network (AESIN) and the IoT Security Foundation (IoTSF) will continue operating alongside it, maintaining their focus on specific technology areas.

The S2S26 summit also highlighted the wider growth of the UK deep-tech sector, covering areas including advanced semiconductor materials, chip design, artificial intelligence, photonics, advanced packaging, cybersecurity and next-generation computing.

Industry leaders believe that bringing these communities together under UKSIA could help the UK compete more effectively in the global semiconductor market by improving collaboration between businesses, universities, investors and policymakers.

The launch represents a significant milestone for the UK semiconductor sector, providing a single voice to promote innovation, investment and long-term growth in one of the world’s most strategically important technology industries.
