TSMC Sales Surge 55% as Demand for AI Chips Continues to Grow

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has reported a sharp increase in sales for September, with revenue rising by approximately 55% year-on-year as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips continues to drive growth across the semiconductor industry.

The world’s largest contract chipmaker recorded September revenue of NT$511.86 billion, equivalent to approximately US$16.03 billion. The strong monthly performance helped push its total revenue for the third quarter of 2026 to NT$1.49 trillion, or around US$47 billion.

AI Boom Fuels Semiconductor Growth

TSMC has become a major beneficiary of the growing demand for AI infrastructure, including advanced processors used in data centres, AI servers and high-performance computing systems.

The company manufactures chips for some of the world’s largest technology businesses, including Nvidia and Apple. Its advanced manufacturing capabilities have made it a key supplier to companies developing increasingly powerful AI systems.

The latest figures highlight the continuing strength of the semiconductor market, as technology companies invest heavily in the computing infrastructure required to develop and operate AI applications.

TSMC’s third-quarter revenue increased by approximately 50% compared with the same period last year, exceeding market expectations and setting a new quarterly record. Analysts had forecast revenue of around NT$1.46 trillion.

Global Expansion to Meet Demand

To support growing demand, TSMC is expanding its manufacturing operations beyond Taiwan, with new facilities planned or under development in several countries.

The company has made substantial commitments to semiconductor manufacturing in the United States, including a major investment in production facilities in Arizona.

Expanding production internationally is intended to increase manufacturing capacity, strengthen supply chains and help the company serve customers seeking access to advanced semiconductor technology.

However, building semiconductor fabrication plants is an expensive and technically demanding process, requiring substantial investment in specialised equipment, infrastructure and highly skilled workers.

Earnings Report Expected to Provide Further Details

TSMC is scheduled to release its detailed third-quarter financial results on 15 October 2026. Investors will be looking for further information about profitability, manufacturing capacity, future investment and expectations for the remainder of the year.

The results will also provide a clearer indication of whether the current AI-driven demand for advanced chips can continue to support the company’s rapid growth.

With AI infrastructure investment continuing to influence the technology sector, TSMC’s performance is becoming an important indicator of the wider semiconductor industry’s health.

The latest sales figures suggest that demand remains strong, although future growth will depend on continued investment in AI, customer spending and the company’s ability to expand production to meet increasingly complex manufacturing requirements.
