Five technologies that help protect your business

As technology develops and advances, so do the malicious methods that criminals use to target businesses.

This means that as a business owner, you need to continuously upgrade your security strategies to keep safe. Thankfully, new security technologies tend to keep pace with the different threats and dangers in play.

So, what are some of the most important systems that businesses can use to protect your business from danger?

In this article, we’ll share five technologies that help protect your business.

1. Data loss prevention (DLP)

Data loss prevention helps ensure that your business’ sensitive data doesn’t get into the wrong hands or become wasted.

Data loss is more frequent than you might think. Data breaches can be caused by criminals. According to data published by Statista, roughly one-fifth of businesses experience a data breach once a month.

Data loss can also happen by accident. For instance, if there’s a power cut and your business doesn’t have a backup generator to maintain power supply. So it is import to ensure you have a backup power supply to prevent data loss in the event of a power outage.

2. Cloud-based solutions

This technology has perhaps helped protect businesses more than any other by removing the need for physical data storage and security systems.

In the past, businesses needed on-site hardware and software to perform these functions. But the cloud systems enabled complete digital transformation in these areas. Now, businesses have 24/7 data availability throughout the year, as well as remote management capabilities.

3. Multi-factor authentication

This security system makes users present two or more forms of identification in order to access their accounts. Usually, this consists of a password for the first authentication factor, followed by a generated token sent via email or mobile phone. This extra layer of authentication makes it significantly more difficult for criminals to access sensitive data through stealing passwords alone.

4. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

These special networks allow your employees to access the internet safely. VPNs encrypt data your devices send to the internet so that cybercriminals can’t intercept and read it. This enables you to browse the web and navigate through your own internal networks without the risk of being hacked.

5. Firewalls

Firewalls are network security systems that monitor and regulate the traffic on your business’ networks. They use pre-established security rule to make sure that no prohibited activity is taking place, acting as a barrier between your internal network and the internet. This prevents hackers from gaining access to your systems through the internet.

Protecting your business can be a complex and frustrating challenge. Consider implementing the five technologies discussed above to create a solid foundation for your business’s security.
