How is technology changing the travel and transportation industries?

Technology and travel have so often gone hand in hand over the course of history. Developments in aviation and automotive settings have been instrumental in advancements across society. And the future remains bright for travel thanks to further discoveries and improvements in technology. Here are some of the most important.

Cars

Automotive settings are perhaps the fastest developing with the application of new technologies. We’ve seen an explosion of hybrid and electric car capabilities which are giving motorists the ability to reduce their carbon footprint and save on fuel prices.

Intelligent driving and entertainment systems mean that cars are some of the most technologically advanced products used widely across society. Over time, these features and EV models will become more affordable and traditionally-fuelled cars will be a thing of the past.

Aviation

A lot of technological innovation has been influenced or driven by aviation in the last century and developments continue to come thick and fast in the industry. Extensive networks of private aircraft give customers the ability to fly to and from anywhere with a few touches of a button. The world is at the fingertips of so many frequent flyers, through programs like Vista’s Vista Global Trading allowing asset free access to private aviation, making this a more widely available service.

Better navigation with improved GPS systems means pilots can reduce flight times and optimise fuel efficiency. Safety has also been improved with more intelligent collision-avoidance systems and enhanced communication channels.

Integration of AI

AI is being applied across every industry it seems and travel is no different. Algorithms continue to help companies target particular consumer trends and booking patterns, while the likes of ChatGPT provide a more personalised customer service portal to help travellers and providers simultaneously.

The technology also has the potential to revolutionise the automotive sector and is already on the way to doing so. Self-driving cars are no longer just a feature of science fiction, they’re driving on our roads today with advancements in AI.

IoT applications

Millions of devices around the world form the vast IoT networks that give travellers and companies the ability to track, measure and monitor data across a wide range of applications. One of the most significant developments has been personalised travel and marketing campaigns.

Elsewhere, IoT sensors, trackers and cameras make it easier to find lost luggage, track flights from the ground and make the accommodation experience that much more seamless. Travellers and travel providers have never been more connected to systems around the world.
